Lá Tía tô (Folium Perillae frutescensis) là lá (hoặc lẫn nhánh non) còn tươi hoặc đã phơi, sấy khô của cây Tía tô (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt.), thuộc họ Bạc hà (Lamiaceae). Tía tô phân bố chủ yếu ở các nước nhiệt đới và ôn đới châu Á. Ở Việt Nam, Tía tô được trồng rộng rãi để làm gia vị và thuốc. Theo tài liệu cổ, Tía tô cay, tính ấm, vào hai kinh phế và tỳ, liều dùng tối đa 10g/ngày. Lá tía tô thường được dùng chữa cảm mạo, sốt, ho, nhức đầu, đau khớp, trúng độc do ăn cua cá, và sưng vú. Lá chứa 0,5% tinh dầu, gồm perilla-andehyt (55%), limonen (20-30%), α-pinen, và dihydrocumin, cùng với adenin và arginin.

II. Thông tin về thực vật

Dược liệu Tía Tô - Lá từ bộ phận Lá từ loài Perilla frutescens.

Mô tả thực vật: Tía tô là một loại cỏ mọc hàng năm, cao chừng 0,5-1,5cm. Thân thẳng đứng có lông. Lá mọc đồi, hình trứng, đầu nhọn, mép có răng cưa to; phiến lá dài 4-12cm rộng 2,50-10cm, màu tím hoặc xanh tím, trên có lông màu tím. Người ta phân biệt thứ tía tô có lá màu tím hung là Perilla ocymoides var. purpurascens và thứ tía tô có lá màu lục, chỉ có gân màu hung (Perilla ocymoides var.bicolor). Cuống lá ngắn 2-3cm. Hoa nhỏ, màu trắng hoặc tím nhạt, mọc thành từng chùm ở kẽ lá hay đầu cành, chùm dài 6-20cm. Quả là hạch nhỏ, hình cầu, đường kình 1mm, màu nâu nhạt, có mạng

III. Thành phần hóa học

Theo tài liệu của GS. Đỗ Tất Lợi: (1) Trong toàn cây tía tô có chứa 0,50% tình đầu, trong tinh dầu, thành phần chủ yếu là perilla- andehyt C10H14O, (55%), limonen (20-30%), α-pinen và dihydrocumin C10H14O. Chất perilla andehyt có mùi thơm đặc biệt của tía tô, chất perilla andehyt anti-oxim ngọt gấp 2.000 lần đường, khó tan trong nước, đun nóng sẽ phân giải, có độc, cho nên không dùng làm chất điều vị được, nhưng có người dùng làm ngọt thuốc lá. Chất màu trong lá tía tô là do este của chất xyanin clorit C17H31O16 CI. Ngoài các chất trên trong tía tô còn chứa adenin C5H5N5 và acginin C6H14N4O2
